Wei qi is your body minds first line of communication with the outside environment.

Wei qi is produced by the wood element Gall bladder and is responsible for creating healthy energetic boundaries and our ability to say no, stand in our truth and protect us from both energetic and environmental toxins.

I cover the role of the body parts and their consciousness in relationship to the 5 elements – see all the details on The Comprehensive Guide to using chinese medicine in whole healing in my store http://www.accessurtrueature.com if you have done the 5 element personality quiz over at access your true nature and want to learn more about this ancient wisdom and healing.
Many spiritual traditions describe an energy field that surrounds the human body.

Modern science is beginning to study and discover the properties and effects of this morphogenetic field. It is within this field that the resonance patterns of our life experiences, beliefs, and inheritances from our ancestors, genetics and ways of thinking are stored.

These imprints or resonance patterns propel our life in a certain direction by attracting people, situations and experiences to us.

Have you taken the 5 elements quiz to discover what your primary emotional triggers are yet?

You can do so here at http://www.accessurtruenature.com and once you have done so, you will be sent a series of emails, audios and e-books to support you in healing from stress, anxiety and depression because you are ready to change unresolved ACE’s.
People who have gone through this FREE series say that the information has been life changing and being able to take simple steps to reclaim their health, wealth and happiness, well priceless to their well being!

You see, its unfortunate that so many of us are running programs that were imprinted at a very young age, or even inherited from our Ancestors. We can inherit patterns of unpredictable toxic stress like fear from famine, natural and man made disasters like war, financial hardship such as The Depression, and other emotional events that shape our family histories, we can also inherit their good experiences too. We call these emotional imprints “Core fractures” in our resonance patterns and they are created by the events in our life that break our trust, or leave us feeling betrayed, abandoned, or victimized.

These trauma imprints etch our morphogenetic field and compromise our physical genetic code, our DNA. They create blind spots, corrupt our potential in business and in relationships, cause us to engage in unhealthy behaviors, and lead us to repeat unwanted and self sabotaging patterns. Left unresolved, we find ourselves stuck in life.

People often blame the circumstances of their birth for their current life. But we’ve seen, in countless public figures, the power to overcome their deep traumas and break through the odds into a life of wild success. It’s all about resilience – and yes I have included a Resilience questionnaire and e-book in the FREE series as well because you are brave and courageous by nature. It’s important to remember that those public figures were once just like us, ordinary people with struggles and dreams, facing obstacles.

In ancient traditions emotions are viewed as energies.

It’s the heroes journey, where depression or fear asks if we can hold ourselves there, in the space and find the gift. In Quechua, the language of the Incas, there are 32 words for our word light. There was the morning sunlight, the light given off by fire, by lightening, by the moon, by fireflies, twilight light, and so on.

Emotions, too, were understood by the Shamans and used as powerful energies to accomplish many goals.

Emotions are valued as tools that were unique to humans, with which they could manifest new realities. Emotions can be separated into those that are pleasant and those that are unpleasant. Joy, fulfillment, love, and excitement are some of the pleasant ones, whereas fear, guilt , hate, anger, jealousy, shame, and frustration are unpleasant.

All things are equal, there are no good or bad emotions – Both negative and positive emotions can be utilized. The experience of fear, for example, gives us an opportunity to confront, acknowledge, and transform our boundaries and the illusion of separation. And when we feel love, when we feel into that emotional state, we heal, we become powerful beyond measure. Those who feel love and give love are able to receive love in return and are able to accomplish any goal.

Deep in the jungles of the Southern continent the medicine people, for the past 500 years, have been using and carrying on the knowledge of the power of certain energies and earth elements to heal disease and illness: emotional, physical, and inherited.

These ancient practices are used to help you heal and understand the meaning of your life. By releasing our negative patterns or emotions through energy healing or shamanic practices and integrating new imprints, you will be able to break free of old patterns and consciously create your life from the place of clarity, fluidity, abundance, joy and fulfillment. I love guiding people through the Compass directions and the 5 Elements theory of Chinese medicine because when you acknowledge your true nature, we flow through life’s ups and downs with more grace and ease. You can find all the details about these home study programs in my store over at http://www.accessurtruenature.com

Energy Healing is based in love and compassion and it works for our complete and total wellness: mental, emotional, spiritual and physical. When you recode the limiting patterns you’ve inherited or imprinted through negative experiences, you make way for new experiences, and open to positive, powerful outcomes.

You may have tried traditional therapy and not experience the type of results that you were hoping for. You may find yourself stuck in the same self-defeating patterns year after year.

Whether you are battling with depression, or being called to clear unhealthy patterns, and receive freedom from your past traumas, or you desire to be more fulfilled and bring your dreams into reality, this type of healing offers unparalleled results and the latest understanding in neuroscience, biology and functional medicine validate the profound and lasting results you can achieve.

The Shamans believe there are two kinds of illnesses… some that are created by our daily behavior or habits and some that are family, environment or socially and spiritually related.

Most HSP’s who feel depressed and anxious because they feel other human and non human’s thoughts, feelings and emotions, are more susceptible to illness & negative experiences, which can create a cyclical effect that feels never ending. Love, understanding and compassion are key for the successful healing of depression, disease, & illness: mental emotional, or physical. This is why knowing your ACE score is another great tool in reclaiming your health and happiness. You can take the ACE test over on my site, what ACE’s are and how to rewire your nervous system and reboot your brain.

Your Generational (Ancestors) Energetic Inheritances or Resonance Pattern

You inherit your Generational resonance patterns from your ancestors, with the direct lineage of 3 to 5 generations, sometimes as far as 7 generations, before you hold the strongest influence.

This ancestral resonance pattern is a result of their thoughts, feelings, beliefs, life experiences, and success and failure patterns around what’s possible for you in your life, confidence in favorable outcomes, or lack of confidence.

Your Parental Energetic Resonance Pattern

Your parental energetic pattern is a direct result of what your parents experienced and passed down to you through your genes. It contains their thoughts, feelings, emotions, beliefs, fear, worry, life experiences, success patterns, failure patterns, and lack, limitations or abundance around money and finances.

Your Environmental Energetic Resonance Pattern

Energy Healing Shamanic Practices

Your Environmental energetic resonance pattern is created during your childhood and young adulthood based on your interaction and experiences with those around you. It is made up of what you heard consciously or in the background during other people’s conversations, listening to arguments around money or bills, other people commenting about money based on their belief system (such as keeping money is harder than making money) and the ideas your formed about success and failure from what you noticed around you.

If you have adopted parents, their teachings, guidance, comments and experiences help shape your Environmental energetic resonance pattern.  When you go to school/college, your experience of other students coming from different family backgrounds, differing access to levels of educational institutions and your own judgment about self-value and worthiness play a big role in shaping your Environmental energetic resonance pattern.

Your Personal Energetic Resonance Pattern

Your Personal energetic resonance pattern is created based on your own life experience and patterns of success, failures and beliefs around money, success and financial abundance, and worthiness.

Based on your achievements, you strengthen different parts of your Personal energetic resonance pattern.  Each time you miss accomplishing a task or a goal and doubt yourself, your Personal energetic resonance pattern gets weaker.

If you have more thoughts and feelings around lack and limitations than abundance and possibility; if you focus on things that are not working; if you review and replay in your head situations that did not work out for you, then you lower your abundance vibration and imprint that lack and limitation onto your Personal energetic resonance pattern.

How are some of these energetic patterns running your life?

Are you empowered or hurt by your Generational, Parental, Environmental or Personal resonance patterns?
Do you feel that you are doing all that you can but somehow not making progress?
How would your life change when you can rewrite some of these imprints and subconscious patterns, heal your core fractures and change your belief systems?

How much better would you feel or how much more would you accomplish?

Telling your story with a whole heart

Do you tell your story with a whole heart?

I love this quote:

“You either walk inside your story and own it, or you stand outside your story and hustle for your worthiness.”
~Brené Brown

It’s your living legacy, the significance without making it significant of what makes you, uniquely special!
The truth is, when we build ourselves up by healing from the inside out everything heals.
I’m trying to make myself stronger on the inside, to be able to heal with life on the outside.
That’s what I’m doing that’s significant.”
It is time to share your gift, your unique story with the world.

I was leading a client through the True Nature Mindfulness Change process this week. She had a huge breakthrough around a childhood memory that has been running her life for over two decades. By giving the unresolved pain – the trapped sensations of her child parts a voice, the constant back pain and deliblitating migraines that had been running her life, left her body and for the first time in a long time, she finally felt like an active participant in how she would create her life from the present. It was beautiful to see the twinkle come into her eyes and she honestly looked twenty years younger in that instant she realised she HAS CHOICE – choice to live life for herself, not her mother, not her sisters, not her husband, not her children, but for herself.

You can Listen to this free webinar here about healing the abandoned child.

and

part two here

I see spontaneous healings

like this every day in my work with adverse childhood trauma and often get asked if we ever truly get past our stories of abuse and trauma.

Can you relate to not wanting your story to be your story?

Yes?
Then consider what I told her, this IS your story.
There is a GIFT in your story of abuse, of neglect, of the challenges you overcame and that is what you came into the world and got through to share with others.
You see the world is not waiting for someone LIKE you, the world is waiting for YOU to tell your story as the GIFT not the victim of the lies someone told you were true about your experiences.
And guess what?
Until you embrace the gift you are, your body will continue to keep the score and it will hurt!

You can treat symptoms of anxiety and depression, you can release trauma from the body, but in the end fighting your true nature, your soul purpose for being YOU in a physical body –  IN the story, is exactly what causes a lot of the suffering, symptoms and disease in the first place.

For years I tried to live outside my story – telling myself I had nothing to be depressed about,
that I wasn’t traumatised,
that I wasn’t easily triggered,
that I wasn’t sensitive,
that I could keep up with what was expected of me by others
that I had no choice in what happened to me or my body.
that is was just life –
“make your bed, lie in it”
“its your latin life – deal with it”
and a whole lot of other lies, unkindness and judgements that held the suffering in place
…. about my story – my life experiences.

Like Berne Brown, I too am an expert on shame,

on not enoughness, on feeling like I am alone, I did not learn it with a phD at University, my phD is my story because after all I gained all my experience out in the world, in the big bad assery field of blame, shame, guilt, self sabotage and external bullying.

For years I did everything I possibly could to “fix” myself
prove I was enough
prove I was worthy
and loveable
and brilliant just as I was
messy and imperfect.
and make the in the lies I tried so hard to make true that I told myself and others especially in the moments of caring not empowering me to do something different.
I remember my Mom telling me as tears pure down my face after a particularly rough day at high school when I felt so alienated and alone
” oh they are just jealous, don’t worry about it.”
and her saying that make me feel even worse.

It added to my confusion, my anxiety and my suicidal thoughts.
By not acknowledging the fact that my nervous system was sensitive, that being intuitive made me easily triggered,
that I was entering adulthood from a starting post that was further back than many people,
I was making life a lot more difficult than it had to be.

This doesn’t mean staying small and remaining a victim.

On the contrary, having a spiritual breakdown a decade later
owning my heroes journey in that dark night of the soul when I entered the cave
was when I finally could own the gift of my story,
and then I because I could FEEL into it, I began to heal.

I had tried to own my story as a child, I shared excerpts of it with others, and I was told variations of ‘you’re too sensitive’ and ‘you need to try harder’, right after I’d been screamed at, shamed or ignored for a week.

I wasn’t TOO sensitive, I was hurt, confused and abused and abandoned.
That’s the truth under all the lies.

Now I vulnerably own and tell my whole story with a whole, open heart,

because my story is a version of your own story and visa versa.
I can say no when I feel overwhelmed without feeling like I’m a failure.
I can take baby steps, slow and unsteady at times with things that others do without hesitation,
without telling myself I’m useless or stupid.( My ex narcissistic husband was really good at reinforcing that!)

I have so much gratitude for my story and for the clients I see who remind me of my resilience in their story.
Together we create a space of fertile listening, of honouring the story from the child’s perspective,
of acknowledging that through the story you created secure attachment when you could not run away, or fight back or create sanctuary or receive
and you will continue to stretch outside your comfort zone to be able to
take care of yourself, as the loving parent who perhaps was not able to keep you safe back then in your childhood moments
and then the nervous system, the brain gets a chance to rewire and reboot from the present.

When you try to live outside your story,
you are constantly putting your nervous system in harm’s way, back in that moment as if it is happening in current time.
Your amygdala responds to the threat of being chased by the lion, and you are right back in the fight/flight/flee state.

For many of the clients I have the honour of guiding back to their True Nature it looks like:

  • taking a job that puts you in situations that constantly trigger  bullying or harassment -“I am not safe”.
  • staying in a relationship that is abusive and unkind – ” I am not worthy of love”.
  • beginning a weight loss program only to binge eat on day 2 “-  I need to be invisible”.

What would it be worth to you to not ever have to make yourself right again by being able to identify the patterns, the feeling under the feeling in those stories and get rd of them forever?
If you have a broken leg, you don’t agree to go hiking in the mountains with your able-bodied friends.
You don’t agree to a job that requires you to stand all day.

This doesn’t mean your leg will always be broken, but it will heal a lot faster if you stop acting as though the injury doesn’t exist.

“You cannot heal, what you cannot feel!”

If you rest up and take the pressure off, it may heal completely and you will be able to go hiking.
Or it might always give a twinge of pain so you decide to take a job that enables you to take the weight off it occasionally.

Our stories are always changing based on our current reality.
Acceptance of what is in any moment is what keeps us truly safe.
Stand up for your whole story, honour it, and if those around you tell you you’re playing the victim,
know that you’re doing the exact opposite.

Are you ready to take responsibility for your healing, your well-being and reclaim your True Nature to thrive?
In the Purpose Mapping process, you get to find your gold by going into the cave, embracing the parts of your shadow you wish were not you and seeing the gift of who you came here to be, BECAUSE of your story
And this means making space for growth at a pace that actually works – for you.

If you are curious about what any of this has to do with Lions and the lessons we can learn from the Power of the Pride and nature – why Zebras don’t get ulcers, I hope you will join Cara Gubbins and myself for a refreshing, honest conversation about how to respond to life stressors , calm down your nervous system and heal your body naturally.
You may be surprised how simple it can be to heal from trauma and abuse in a way that does not require
anxiety, depression or beating yourself up with all the head tripping.

Join me as I’m interviewed by Dr. Cara Gubbins on the Animal Wisdom Circle Expert Interview Series on May 6 at 11am PST.
Her show helps animal lovers and spiritual seekers connect with their truth so they can change the world. My interview is called “The Power of the Pride: What Lions Can Teach Us About Heart Connections and Teamwork,” and I’ll be sharing how to heal separation sickness, create calm in the chaos of the urban jungle, and use the power of animal totems.
Join us for what will be an uplifting and inspiring event.

You can register here: http://eepurl.com/bLd-a1 and get all the details for joining the call.

and in the meantime celebrate your incredible story – its what makes you, uniquely special!
It is time to share your gift, your unique story with the world.

Much love & and gratitude

P.S. READY TO SILENCE SELF SABOTAGE?:

Notice the name calling that happens with your inner voice.

Start to cultivate self compassion and radical acceptance of yourself with these reflections:

  • “I can have compassion for myself and accept myself just as I am”
  • “Let me just start right where I am, right now”
  • “I deeply love and accept myself”

Accepting yourself as you can give you a place to start without judgement. The next step is to ask for what you need and and move forward on your priorities.

We must feel to heal,

yet we love to find ways to immediately suppress and fix the uncomfortable stuff, right?

What if the only way to heal is to feel everything?

I hear so many people say that they don’t have time to slow down, to heal, to listen to their body –

which is why so many people take a break and get sick. The disconnect between the body and the mind has to come back to a holistic lifestyle where you get to reduce stress, heal your body and de stress because you are in touch with your body’s gentle nudges to pay attention to misalignment before it brings you down!!

We are 3 months in to 2016 and If you feel like life is passing you by, you don”t know how it can be APRIL already and are in a state of overwhelm or shutdown then let me support you in getting more Clarity you can book a complimentary CLARITY to healing breakthrough session now by going here:

I was CELEBRATING with one of my VIP clients this week about how far she has come in the past 3 months we have been working together to heal her adverse childhood experiences. Today she wrote me back and said her results for Hep C that she has been struggling with since she contracted it through a blood transfusion after the birth of her so decades ago came back CLEAR!!
It is so easy to diminish our victories, forget how far we have come in shifting our minds and bodies and move into the space of divine emergence because life is fast, chaotic and sometimes feels too painful.
But the truth is, you have to FEEL in order to HEAL.
Its noisy out there and finding the right kind of support in this deep dive of root cause resolution is essential.

mindshift

what you think you become – heal trauma from the root cause of the story

I’ll be very honest here and say that entering into this level of healing isn’t always easy, as it means tapping into body sensations and emotions that may feel a little uncomfortable at first, but over time a person begins to welcome such discomforts and knows that they’re there to teach something very potent. It’s the gift in depression, in everything good, bad and ugly!!

Many of my clients are alternative medicine practitioners, energy healers, life coaches and body worker who have realised that in order to fill their practices and support their clients they need to heal their own core woundings.

When we stop feeling we also stop being able to listen to what our body wants.

The signalling mechanisms go off and we stop being a healthy human being. We go into low oxygen, low metabolism mode. (Hello person having trouble losing weight, whose immune system is weak and/or who can’t think clearly or find any creative juices. We need lots of oxygen to be a healthy human being.)

Our safety signals get thrown off. We start living in a stressed out survival state.(Hello person who is always afraid of putting themselves out there, and may be in a state of perpetual panic and anxiety about future events that haven’t happened yet, or past event that occurred a long time ago.)

Over time, this shows up in not just our health and biology, but as we become adults it seeps into how we think, work, create and connect.

This is what early and/or developmental trauma does to the grown up – those early strategies to stay safe and protect our being hang around forever, unless we address them. You cannot change what you don’t know is running your life and that is why working with my mindfulness change and purpose mapping processes is the foundation. It does not matter how good your money mentor or reiki healer is, if you don’t address the root cause of your pain, it will keep surfacing over and over again

flow and the feeding cycle of chinese medicine

Many of you who know my personal story of  how I healed myself of chronic depression and life threatening disease is what brought me to this space of assisting others with their health crisis. It took me a long time to realise that my purpose, when I aligned with my vital essence would never have emerged if I had not walked the path through the pain.

One of my favorite means to help my clients is through the ancient wisdom of Chinese Medicine, because it is all about energy flow, pathways, patterns and meridians. That when we can see the inter connectedness of all things, that how we tend to our internal gardens is a reflection of the outer garden and that the survival of the planet depends on each us practicing radical self care, love and allowance.

April is the time we move from the lungs and into peak of large intestine time, the Metal element, the emotion of surrender, grief and letting go.
Its Autumn in the southern hemisphere and an invitation to shed our “leaves” and move into the roots as we ready our body for the colder months.
In the North, you are moving into Wood element, Spring and a time associated with the Liver and Gall Bladder systems.

But in Chinese Medicine, the Liver doesn’t just help us digest fat, filter out toxins, and synthesize hormones.
It also helps us to process emotions, governs vision in both the literal and metaphysical sense, and helps us put plans into motion.
It has to do with planning, creativity, flexibility, decision-making and having the heart (courage) to move forward with ease and grace.
To help you harness the energy of the season, whether you are in Autumn or Spring, I am sharing an introduction audio from my Going with the flow through the 5 Elements to Whole health Master class series.

Listen to it on your drive to work. Or better yet, on a walk into nature.

Spring and the wood element: http://1. https://soundcloud.com/sarahjanediamond/wood-element-indecision-to-inspired-action/s-ifacZ

Depression is A Disease of Civilisation: Hunter-gatherers hold the Key to the Cure

Depression is A Disease of Civilization: Hunter-Gatherers Hold the Key to the Cure

depression-title-image_tcm7-188201

Depression is a global epidemic. It is the main driver behind suicide, which now claims more than a million lives per year worldwide. One in four Americans will suffer from clinical depression within their lifetimes, and the rate is increasing with every generation.

It robs people of sleep, energy, focus, memory, sex drive and their basic ability to experience the pleasures of life, says author of The Depression Cure Stephen Ildari. It can destroy people’s desire to love, work, play and even their will to live. If left unchecked it can cause permanent brain damage.

Depression lights up the pain circuitry of the brain to such an extent that many of Ildari’s psychiatric patients have called it torment, agony and torture. “Many begin to look to death as a welcome means of escape,” he said in a Ted Talks presentation.

But depression is not a natural disease. It is not an inevitable part of being human. Ildari argues, like many diseases, depression is a disease of civilization. It’s a disease caused by a high-stress, industrialized, modern lifestyle that is incompatible with our genetic evolution.

Depression is the result of a prolonged stress-response, Ildari said. The brain’s “runaway stress response” – as he calls it – is similar to the fight or flight response, which evolved to help our ancestors when they faced predators or other physical dangers. The runaway stress response required intense physical activity for a few seconds, a few minutes, or – in extreme cases – a few hours.

“The problem is for many people throughout the Western world, the stress response goes on for weeks, months and even years at a time, and when it does that, it’s incredibly toxic,” Ildari said.

Living under continually stressful conditions – as many modern humans do – is disruptive to neuro-chemicals like dopamine and seratonin, which can lead to sleep disturbance, brain damage, immune dysregulation and inflammation, Ildari says.

Civilization is the disease

hadza-dance-tanzania_13187_990x742Epidemiologists have now identified a long list of other stress-related diseases as “diseases of civilization” – diabetes, atherosclerosis, asthma, allergies, obesity and cancer. These diseases are rampant throughout the developed world, but virtually non-existent among modern-day aboriginal peoples.

In a study of 2000 Kaluli aborigines from Papua New Guinea, only one marginal case of clinical depression was found. Why? Because the Kaluli lifestyle is very similar to our hunter-gatherer ancestors’ lifestyle that lasted for nearly 2 million years before agriculture, Ildari said.

“99.9 percent of the human experience was lived in a hunter-gatherer context,” he added. “Most of the selection pressures that have sculpted and shaped our genomes are really well adapted for that environment and that lifestyle.”

In view of nearly 3 million years of hominid existence, since homo habilis first began use of stone tools, our genus has undergone rapid environmental change since the advent of agriculture about 12,000 years ago. And in the last 200 years, since the industrial revolution, our species has had to cope with what Ildari calls “radical environmental mutation.”

While our environment has radically mutated, our human genome is essentially the same as it was 200 years ago, Ildari says. “That’s only eight generations. It’s not enough time [for significant genetic adaptations].”

“There’s a profound mismatch between the genes we carry, the bodies and brains that they are building, and the world that we find ourselves in,” he said. “We were never designed for the sedentary, indoor, socially isolated, fast-food-laden, sleep-deprived frenzied pace of modern life.”

The Cure

Though he’s not entirely opposed to medication, Ildari says we can throw all the drugs in the world at the depression epidemic, and it won’t make a dent.

Anti depressant use has gone up 300 percent in the last 20 years, but the rate of depression has continued to increase. One in nine Americans over age 12 is currently taking an antidepressant, and one in five have been on them at some point.

The answer, Ildari says, is a change in lifestyle. He says the results of his six step program have exceeded his wildest dreams:

1. Exercise

2. Omega 3 Fatty Acids

3. Sunlight

4. Healthy Sleep

5. Anti-ruminative activity

6. Social connection

In his presentation, he emphasized the importance of exercise and social connection, as they are two of the hardest parts of the program for modern Americans.

Exercise is ‘not natural’

Ildari says the results of exercise on depression are so powerful that if they could be reduced into a pill, it would be the most expensive pill on earth. The problem is 60 percent of American adults get no regular physical activity. Ildari says it’s not their fault. Between long days at work and household and family responsibilities to attend to, who has the time or energy to hit the gym?

The dirty little secret about exercise, Ildari says, is “it is not natural.” We are designed to be physically active “in the service of adapted goals,” not to exercise on a hamster wheel.

Hunter gatherers get four or more hours of vigorous physical activity every day, but if you ask them they will tell you they don’t exercise, Ildari says. “They don’t work out. Working out would be crazy to them. They live.”

“When you put a lab rat on a treadmill … it will squat down on it’s haunches, and the treadmill starts to rub the fur and the skin right off it’s back side,” he said. “When you stare at a piece of exercise equipment, there is a part of your brain that’s screaming out ‘Don’t do it! You’re not going anywhere!’”

If you can’t go out gathering your own nuts and berries or hunting your own meat, Ildari recommends brisk walking with a friend. Walking for 30 minutes, three times a week, has better effects on depression than Zoloft, he said.

Social Connection

Another huge factor in modern depression is the lack of social connection in our modern nuclear-family bubbles. “Face-time with our loved ones puts the breaks on our stress response,” Ildari says.

The problem is we’ve replaced face-time with screen-time. “Our hunter gatherer ancestors spent all day every day in the company of their loved ones.”

Unfortunately illness, including mental illness, triggers people to isolate themselves, which only makes depression worse.

“Resist the urge to withdraw,” Ildari says, “because when you’re ill, your body tells you to shut down and pull away. When you have the flu, that’s adaptive. When you have depression, it’s the worst thing in the world you could do.”

Rewilding and Tribal Living

What Ildari didn’t mention in his Ted Talk is how difficult his cure is for most modern humans to attain. Sure, we’d all like more fresh air, sunlight, exercise, a better diet, better sleep, less monotonous work, and more interaction with loved ones, but who has time for all that?

I’m stuck here staring at my screen typing about it in an effort to make a living for myself, and many of you don’t even have time to read this article because you have 50+ hours-a-week jobs of your own. Meanwhile, immediate-return hunter-gatherers work an average of 17 hours a week. In this world, we certainly can’t just quit our jobs to be less stressed, when the financial stress would create more stress.

In my opinion, the answer lies in baby steps. Baby steps away from dependence on civilization, and toward nature, earth skills, and self-sustaining communal living.

Its about remembering to come back to your heart, your true nature and loving where you are.

Getting back to your roots, following an ancestral diet, listening to your body, going with the flow of our natural cycles with nature, trusting your gut knowing are the keys to set you free.

You are not broken, there is nothing to fix, there is only a return to the present moment of loving what is.

What you don’t know about depression

On my own journey through life and mis diagnosis of bipolar disorder. functional autism, it makes my heart expand to know that finally the truth about depression, anxiety and chronic stress can no longer be muted by big pharma. When you ask questions and trust the inmate wisdom of your body mind, you can heal your body naturally using nature’s medicine chest and the ancient wisdom of our ancestors to write your own prescription for a healthy, fulfilled life on purpose. Over the past 15 years, I have had the honour of assisting women all over the world to heal themselves from the inside out, from their cells to their soul using simple strategies like eating clean, getting enough restorative sleep, rewiring their nervous system by getting to the root cause of their current health, relationship and money issues through my Mindfulness Change and early childhood experiences with unpredictable stressors i.e. epigenetic and then using an integrative healing approach unique to each individual to reboot their brain and support their body systems naturally and effectively so they thrive!

Who am I to show you how? Well, I have created the True nature Systems based on healing my own body mind, years of study, certification and clients results . When doctors told  me I would be on SSRI’s for the rest of my life if I wanted to stay alive and functioning, I chose to look at alternative medicine and nutrition as my pathway from pain to purpose. In 6 months, I tapered off the medication, cleared my brain fog and anxiety through the D.R.E.S.S code (diet, rest, exercise, sleep and supplementation) and regained “a mind of my own.”

It was not always easy or comfortable, there were times when I just wanted to curl in a ball and go to sleep forever, but my vision to heal myself and help other women was bigger than my fear.

I know I did not go through all of this to keep it to myself – this work matters and there has never been a better time to trust your YES!

You can read the long version of my story here

Knowledge is power and I am on a mission to “teach a wo/man to fish and feed him/her for life”.

If you’re diagnosed with depression, then chances are you can relate to any of the following: persistent distress, malaise, anxiety, inner agitation, fatigue, low libido, poor memory, irritability, insomnia, sense of hopelessness, and feeling overwhelmed and trapped but emotionally flat. You might wake up most mornings unmotivated and uninspired, and you drag yourself around all day waiting for it to end (or waiting for a drink). Maybe you feel a sense of dread or panic without knowing why. You can’t silence the negative thoughts, which puts you on edge. Sometimes it seems like you could let loose an endless stream of tears, or perhaps you can’t remember the last time you cared enough about something to cry. All of these descriptions are symptoms that typically fall under a diagnosis of clinical depression. And if you were to seek help through conventional medicine, even if you don’t consider yourself “depressed,” you’d likely be handed a prescription for an antidepressant, joining the more than 30 million users in America. You might already be part of this community and feel like your fate is now sealed.

It doesn’t have to be.

Over the past twenty-five years, ever since the FDA approval of Prozac-type medications, we’ve been taught that drugs can improve the symptoms of or even cure mental illness, particularly depression and anxiety disorders. Today they are among the most prescribed, best-selling drugs. This has led to one of the most silent and underestimated tragedies in the history of modern health care.

As a practicing psychiatrist with a degree in cognitive neuroscience from MIT, an MD from Weill Cornell Medical College, and clinical training from NYU School of Medicine, I care deeply for women struggling with their well-being. I’m compelled to share what I’ve learned about the corruption of modern psychiatry and its sordid history while investigating holistic methods that focus on nutrition, meditation, and physical activity—what some practitioners are calling lifestyle medicine because the approach involves changes in everyday lifestyle habits, rather than the use of pharmaceuticals. While such drug-free methods are rooted in supportive science, they are virtually unknown in this age of the quick fix.

Let’s get a few facts straight from the get-go. I’m not a conspiracy theorist. I’m not even that politically minded, but I do like to think for myself. I’m a natural skeptic and pragmatist. These days, there are a couple of issues in my line of work that are making my blood boil, and I’m working to connect the dots between them to help establish a framework for a truth in science “sniff-test.” For one, symptoms of mental illness are not entirely a psychological problem, nor are they purely a neurochemical issue (and, as we’ll see shortly, not a single study has proven that depression is caused by a chemical imbalance in the brain). Depression is merely a symptom, a sign that something is off balance or ill in the body that needs to be remedied.

And two, depression is a grossly misdiagnosed and mistreated condition today, especially among women—one in seven of whom is being medicated (one in four of reproductive age). Although I was trained to think that antidepressants are to the depressed (and to the anxious, panicked, OCD, IBS, PTSD, bulimic, anorexic, and so on) what eyeglasses are to the poor-sighted, I no longer buy into this rhetoric.

We owe most of our mental illnesses—including their kissing cousins such as chronic worry, fogginess, and crankiness—to lifestyle factors and undiagnosed physiological conditions that develop in places far from the brain, such as the gut and thyroid. That’s right: you might owe your gloominess and unremitting unease to an imbalance that is only indirectly related to your brain’s internal chemistry. Indeed, what you eat for breakfast (think whole wheat toast, fresh OJ, milk, and multigrain cereal) and how you deal with that high cholesterol and afternoon headache (think Lipitor and Tylenol) could have everything to do with the causes and symptoms of your depression. And if you think a chemical pill can save, cure, or “correct” you, you’re dead wrong. That is about as misguided as taking aspirin for a nail stuck in your foot.

I do not deny that I have developed a bit of an acrimonious relationship with much of conventional medicine over the past several years. After having witnessed the devastation this paradigm has wrought upon the lives of hundreds of my patients, I’m convinced that the pharmaceutical industry and its bedfellows, concealed behind official titles such as certain medical societies and associations, have created an illusion of science where none exists, in the service of profit over professional responsibility. I can myth bust just about everything you think you know about the role of drugs in the treatment of depression and anxiety. It’s time to turn the lights on in this dark room. Let’s open up this conversation and embrace a perspective on depression that radically challenges mainstream assumptions and theories.
